20th Anniversary and Hall of Fame to be Recognized Saturday

On Saturday, January 19th the Mount Marty community will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Laddie E. Cimpl arena and induct new members into the Mount Marty Hall of Fame. The Cimpl arena recognition will be between the men’s and women’s games (approximately 3:30 p.m.), and the Hall of Fame announcements will be at half time of the men’s game (approximately 4:30 p.m.).

The arena, built in 1987 was first opened for use on January 20, 1988. A formal dedication for the building was held on February 7 of that year, during the men’s and women’s basketball matches against the National College Mavericks.

The original cost of the building was $1.5 million under the direction of the Board Building Committee which consisted of Clark Redlinger, Dean Specht, Mark Hunhoff, Sister Marie Helene Werdel, Bob Winter, and Sister Jacquelyn Ernster, president of the college at that time.

Originally known as the Activity Center, the facility was named the Laddie E. Cimpl Arena in 1993 for the long-time college benefactor and area businessman.

Cimpl was also the first member inducted to the Lancer Athletic Hall of Fame when the shrine was reborn in 2001. Additional members for the Hall of Fame will be inducted during half-time of the men’s afternoon game.
The Lancers will be competing against Concordia beginning with the women’s game at 2 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 4 p.m.
