Mount Marty Announces New Hall of Fame Members
Mount Marty College has announced the four new members to the Lancer Athletic Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held on May 4th. The four include two outstanding athletes, one of the great coaches in the region and a long time supporter and contributor to the athletic program.
Kristi (Cihak) Soukup
Kristi played basketball for Mount Marty from 1989-1993 and led the Lancers to four consecutive Southeast Sub-District and two IO-KOTA Conference Championships. She was a three-time all-conference player and after her senior season was named to 2nd Team All-South Dakota Collegiate Team and to the 1993 NAIA All District 12 Team. Kristi is in the top ten in nine different Lancer statistical categories, including 3rd all-time in scoring and 4th all-time in rebounding.
Keith Heingartner
A transfer from Dawson Community College, Keith averaged 20 points and 13 rebounds a game in his first season. In which he set a school record by connecting on an 65.4% of his field goals, a mark that was 4th best in the nation. Keith led the Lancers to a 21 and 11 record during his senior season. When Keith’s career (1979-1981) was complete he had set 3 individual records and was on the top ten lists in 8 different Lancer career and single game statistical categories.
Doug Martin
Doug Martin came to Mount Marty in 1978 and led the Lancer Men’s Basketball program until 1982. Doug finished his coaching career with the second highest wining percentage as basketball coach in Mount Marty men’s basketball history. While coaching at Mount Marty, Doug coached three Hall of Famers, including current Yankton High School teachers and coaches Doug Pesicka and Randy Gross. Coach Martin was named District 12 Coach of the Year in 1980, the year in which he guided the team to SDIC Holiday Tournament and in to the NAIA Play-offs. The following year the Lancers were the NAIA District 12 Independent Tournament Champions.
Dwight Hauff
Dwight Hauff started working in 1926, and today, 82 years later, he still makes it to the office on a daily basis at the age of 102. Hauff has worked in the sporting goods industry for 75 years, opening his first store in Sioux City, Iowa. He has been recognized as the oldest active worker in the nation in America and was featured on the Jay Leno show. Dwight has been the major supplier of athletic equipment and supplies to the Lancer athletic program since its beginnings. His expertise and service to the college has been invaluable, and has a long time contributor to the college and the community.
