Mount Marty College and Sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery Present Vespers As a Gift To Community

Mount Marty College and the Sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery will present Vespers "Festival of Lessons and Carols" as a gift to the community at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Bishop Marty Memorial Chapel, Yankton.

Introduced at King¹s College (Cambridge, England) the annual service of Lessons and Carols has been broadcast to millions on public radio for decades. The popularity of the service exists in its accessibility. It is truly an ecumenical service for all denominations. The service moves from the wonder and mystery of Advent to the miracle and joy of the birth of Christ. The Scripture readings are echoed by carols for choir and the congregation.

Readers for the service come from all over the Yankton community. Special guests for this year¹s event include Nadia Maudhoo, 12-year-old violin virtuoso; Anne Nagosky, Omaha Symphony violinist; and Scott Piper, tenor.
This is a wonderful opportunity to sing familiar carols and celebrate the freedom that allows us to celebrate not the Holiday season but, specifically, the wonder and majesty that is Christmas. The Mount Marty choirs, directed by Dr. Sean Vogt, will perform.

This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.

Reservations can be made now through Nov. 28, by calling 605-668-6000.
