Cast of 90 Prepares for Outdoor Performance of Mount Marty College Production

On Saturday, April 5th at 1:00PM, over 90 individuals will perform in a unique, one-day outdoor adaptation of the medieval cycle play, THE WAKEFIELD MYSTERIES on the Mount Marty campus in Yankton. Mount Marty College Theatre will be hosting the performance rain or shine with the cooperation of the Sioux City Renaissance Recorder Ensemble, Christ Episcopal Church Choir, St. Benedict’s Parish Choir and the Mount Marty College Music Department.

Biblical characters will come alive in THE WAKEFIELD MYSTERIES, allowing audiences the opportunity to continue the Easter celebration. Beginning with the Annunciation, the play then takes us to the Nativity, Pilate’s Court, the Crucifixion, before its culmination with the Resurrection. The story is told through text and music, with each scene running approximately 10-15 minutes.

The production will be presented in the form of a parade along the east lawn of the campus. Five scenes will be presented, each housed on its own moving stage. The audience will choose one of four areas to congregate and wait for the performers to pass by. Each scene will be performed four times, once at each audience area. The route will begin in front of Bede Hall at the top of the hill and end in the Cimpl Arena parking lot. Hayracks pulled by pickup trucks will provide the staging for each scene.

The college anticipates a large crowd to attend the show. “We hope to have at least 1000 people visit our campus on April 5,” says director Andy Henrickson, Associate Professor of Speech & Theatre. “We have made parking arrangements for over 500 vehicles, and there is plenty of room for folks of all ages to enjoy this production. Pack up your lawn chairs and blankets and take in this special presentation of drama and music.”

MMC students, faculty, staff as well as community members are all represented in the cast, which includes the Sioux City Renaissance Recorder Ensemble (Yvonne Hazlett, Walt Beckwith, Pam Bennett, Dave Morgan, Mike Kabala), Sr. Maribeth Wentzlaff, Tony Lazarowicz, Cody Juffer, Rachel Moser, Kristopher Falkena, Desiree Smith, Robin Myer, Stephanie Stech, Rachel Jankord, Dr. James Simmons, Arielle Klein, Mindy Newborg, Brittany Maag, Ben Puthoff, Dr. Mark Winegar, Mike Foss, Karie Gundrum, Joey Stahl, Jessica Halbur, Andrea Day, Julia Matthys, Rich Wright, Sarah Klug, Briana Fiegen, the Christ Episcopal Church Choir (Laura Baumeister, Gert Boyles, Myrna Brennick, Kathy Grow, Christine Lambertz, Hannah Lambertz, JoAnn Lambertz), Jim Hovland, Dmitri Baumgart, Andy Bernatow, Dr. Alan Ferris, Cesar Juarez, Aaron Shelden, Crystal Oberg, Lantz Kulp, Dillon Beckman, Sara Velduizen, Jim Wilcynski, Michael Van Otterloo, Leonard Risinger, Chris Bossen, Garrett Adam, members of the MMC Choir (Gina Emanuel, Theresa Gresham, Christine A.
