Dr. Teresa Torres Selected to Deliver Sister Wilma Lyle Lecture

The public is invited to attend Mount Marty’s Sister Wilma Lyle Lecture on Thursday, April 3rd featuring Dr. Teresa Torres. Torres will speak in Marian Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on the topic of “Love the Immigrant as Yourself: A Christian Response to Immigration.”

Much discussion has surrounded the effects of immigration, but lost in the discussion is a focus on the immigrants themselves: their stories, reasons for coming and family situations. The Benedictine values of seeking justice and peace, creating a welcoming environment of hospitality, as well as listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit are ways to address this complicated topic.

The focus of this presentation will be St. Benedict’s call to “Listen with the ear of your heart” as Torres studies the impact of immigration on the lives of immigrants, the reasons for the ongoing increase in immigration, and possible solutions in the immigrant crisis through local and national legislative and political efforts.

The presentation is free and open to the public.
