The majority of Medical Technologists pursue careers in hospital or clinical
laboratories. Graduates may also work for blood banks, health maintenance
organizations, independent laboratories, pharmaceutical firms, insurance companies or research labs. Many advance to supervisory or management
responsibilities in these labs.
Other career areas include government regulatory agencies, education, and
research. Large pharmaceutical or scientific equipment companies employ
graduates in development, quality control, or sales. Graduates must become
certified by passing an examination by the American Society of Clinical
Pathologists or the
National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel.
Other graduates have successfully completed graduate school in the
pre-professional health areas. The Medical Technology program is excellent
preparation for pre-medicine or physician assistant graduate school. |
