The Criminal Justice major at Mount Marty College is comprehensive and provides students with the background necessary to become practitioners in a wide variety of positions in the Criminal Justice profession. Students are prepared for careers in local, state and federal law enforcement, institutional and community corrections, juvenile justice, social and human services, or as an undergraduate major in preparation for law school, or graduate school in criminal justice.
Criminal Justice majors examine and learn the structures that comprise the Criminal Justice system and how they work together to provide society with vital services, control, and stability. Students gain in-depth, detailed knowledge pertaining to criminal investigations, criminal law, criminal procedure, policing, corrections, juvenile justice, drugs, alcohol and crime, private security and career opportunity information.
With its emphasis on community service, internships, and practitioner
mentoring, MMC's criminal justice program is unique, focused on applied learning
and preparing students for the contemporary world of work in the criminal
justice system.
Given the small size of classes, professors, not graduate students, teach all classes, know
their students, and commit to helping their students to grow personally and
professionally. One of the biggest benefits at MMC is that students receive individualized attention
and they have the opportunity to work closely with faculty members both in and out of the
classroom.
Criminal Justice majors work in concert with programs in psychology, human services and sociology to develop insight into human
behavior essential to a criminal justice professional. During the senior year,
all students completea senior seminar experience.
It is recommended that students complete a professional internship. The internship allows the student to apply the knowledge they have gained in the classroom to an applied setting in the criminal justice system. Graduates receive comprehensive career counseling and assistance enabling them to choose
among many entry-level positions in the criminal justice profession.
MMC offers both a bachelor's degree and an associate's degree in Criminal
Justice. |
