Students have many opportunities to supplement their academics. Community
experiences are coordinated by faculty and on-site supervisors to prepare
students for the world of work in criminal justice. Service partners include the Federal Prison Camp, County Sheriff's
Office, Court Services, State Juvenile Corrections, Yankton Police Department,
and South Dakota Human Services Center.
Forensic Science majors can become involved in the Criminal Justice Club. The
Club invites guest speakers including judges, police officers, attorneys, probation officers, and state agents to allow students to network with criminal justice professionals. Previous field
trips include jails, prisons, boot camps, police and sheriff agencies, and the
SD Supreme Court.
Besides coursework, there are opportunities to experience research
activities. Students may present their research at state meetings or have abstracts and other works published in organizations such as the SD Academy of
Science. These opportunities assist students as they seek acceptance into
graduate programs and a job. |
