Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia

The Council on Accreditation requires that Nurse Anesthesia programs request one year of acute care experience as a registered nurse prior to entry in the program. This experience should provide the skills for physical assessment; monitoring of CVP, PWCP, blood gasses, ECG, and ventilators; and I.V. therapy. This experience can be obtained in acute intensive care units or possibly an emergency room. Due to the number of applicants each year, admission into the program becomes quite competitive; most people entering the program have two or more years of acute care experience.
