In
pursuing a Recreational Management degree, students will attain the knowledge
and ability to be successful in local, state, and federal recreational
programs. Students will have sufficient business foundation to enter positions
for major recreational equipment
corporations.
Career potential, high
standards of living, and advances in technology have given people more
opportunity to play, to relax, or to pursue a hobby or sport. As a result,
a profession has emerged to help people use their leisure time to enrich
their lives. Recreation programs can be found in large institutions and
in small community centers.
Recreation professionals work in state, city, and recreational parks;
sporting good companies; camps; YMCA’s; Boys and Girls Clubs; health
clubs; and privately owned business. They also work at theme parks, tourist
attractions, and resorts. They organize a variety of leisure activities, including fitness, sports, crafts and special events.
For those who love the
outdoors, Recreation Management is a good career choice.
The demand for recreation directors is on the rise in South Dakota and
in the region. With a bachelor’s degree, graduates are qualified
to work in the following areas of employment: Equipment Sales, Theme Park Management, State and Government Parks, Community Recreation Directors, Game, Fish & Parks Management, Outdoor Recreation Management, Recreation Administrator, City Recreation Department.
