Many education majors become active in the MMC Education Club and participate in Make a Difference Day, Girl Scout-A-Rama, fund raisers, as well as various outreach projects (SDEA). The MMC Education Club was recognized as the 2001 Outstanding Club in South Dakota by the SDNEA.

Student teaching is completed in schools in Yankton or the immediate rural area. The opportunity is available to student teach in an inner city school through the Cooperative Urban Teacher Education program in Kansas City, KS, on Native American reservations; or abroad through the Student Teaching Abroad program.
