A career in the theatre is vast and filled with
opportunities dependent on one’s area of interest and/or expertise. Obviously
there are career opportunities for teaching theatre in secondary and higher
education venues. Secondary Education majors are encouraged to consider a
theatre major or minor is they have interest in participating in theatre as an
extra-curricular activity. For those students who desire to teach in the primary
grades, a theatre major or minor will provide useful tools and skills to use in
the classroom. If the college setting interests a student, graduate school is a
must, and a bachelor’s degree in theatre is the first item of business to
achieve that goal. In professional and community theatre settings, a career in
theatre typically falls into two primary areas – artistic and administrative.
