Frequently Asked Questions

What is the dual credit program?

The program provides a unique opportunity for students to fulfill their high school education and obtain college credit at the same time. Mount Marty College's (MMC) first partnerships in the Dual Credit Program were formed in 1996 and have proven to be very successful and a huge educational asset to all students who take advantage of the program.

What are the benefits to the students?

Through participation in the Dual Credit Program students gain confidence in themselves and their ability to do college level work. Those who successfully complete the course(s) receive a MMC transcript verifying completion of college-level coursework. This allows high school juniors and seniors to get a "jump start" on their college education since the credits are transferable to other colleges and universities. Students participating in this program have earned up to a year's worth of college credit while still in high school.

What about transferability?

The Dual Credit courses have been carefully evaluated by Mount Marty College faculty and administration to ensure that they are equivalent to on-campus college courses. The credits will transfer to most other colleges and universities; however, each institution has its own policies and regulations concerning the transfer of credits. Therefore, it is advisable that students check with the college(s) they are considering to ensure that they will receive credit. MMC currently has an agreement with the S.D. Board of Regents that guarantees our dual credit credits will transfer to South Dakota state institutions.

Once students determine where they will be attending college, they can contact the MMC Registrar's Office at 668-1515 and request transcripts to be sent to the college they will be attending. This will assist in the transfer process. If you have questions about the transfer process and need assistance, please contact the Admission Office at 668-1545.
