Preparation for the Medical Field.
"I chose my majors because I love the medical field, and I am determined to become a physician." Rachel's pursuing a degree in biology and chemistry and is currently in the process of preparing applications to medical school, where she'll go upon graduation from Mount Marty. In addition to coursework, she had the opportunity to gain experience during the summer of 2006 in nearby Vermillion:
"I was fortunate enough to spend a summer at the University of South Dakota doing medically-related research, which is similar to an internship. The experience I gained there was very beneficial."
Favorite Activities.
Rachel has been involved in a multitude of activities at Mount Marty. She's the co-president of Biology/ Chemistry Club, involved in ASPIRE, the Honors Program, Ambassadors and the Yankton Tobacco Education Coalition. After a year as public relations officer, this year she is the secretary of Mount Marty's Student Government Association.
"It is enjoyable to represent Mount Marty's students and carry out their requests. Being the 'voice' of the students is a great honor."
An Ambassador for the College.
Rachel is one of 18 juniors at Mount Marty involved in Ambassadors, a group that is very active in hosting activities both at the college and the president's house. "It is a program that offers students a great chance to become intensely involved with the college, and our goal is to serve the college and represent Mount Marty's core values."
Final Words.
Now in her third year of Mount Marty, Rachel still feels the great atmosphere she experienced on her first visit as a prospective student:
"I decided to come to Mount Marty because when I visited the college during my senior year of high school, I found a place that was friendly and comfortable. Everyone I met at the college was hospitable and genuinely helpful. In my three years at college, I have found that my first impression was not a mistake."
Asked if she would recommend Mount Marty to prospective students, she responded "definitely." She added, "Mount Marty is a college that has the students' best interests in mind. If you are willing to work hard, you will succeed while you're here and after you graduate." |
