Season Preview

The 2010 Lancer Volleyball team returns nine athletes from last season: three red-shirt athletes, three freshmen, and one former MMC basketball player who is switching to volleyball this year. This group of sixteen includes three seniors who have high expectations for the season and are excited to achieve their goals after a disappointing 4-27 record in 2009.
The three seniors this year will play a huge role on the court. Krista Hohn, a three-year letter winner with 156 kills and 60 blocks in the 2009 season, will be a solid middle hitter for the Lancers. Maggie Goree, also a three-year letter winner with 165 kills, has been a right-side hitter in the past, but will move to the outside position this year. Maggie has a great arm and is good at placing the ball on the court. Two-year letter winner, Kayla Ranek, with 156 digs and 93% serve-receive last season, will continue to help the Lancers defense and serve-receive.
Five juniors will be on the roster this volleyball season. After red-shirting last year, Kerry McDonald is looking strong as a setter to run the Lancer offense. Kerry is aggressive and can also attack the ball. Carlie Lambert, a two-year letter winner, will look to continue her solid play on the right side. As a sophomore, Carlie compiled 74 kills and 28 blocks and broke the record of most ace serves in a game.
Juniors, Kristen Grassa and Jen Jerdee both bring quickness and athleticism to the program. Kristen will help us out in the back row with defense and serve-receive. Jen can play as a setter or a defensive specialist, and she has a very aggressive jump serve.
Although Cortney Bullington is a junior this fall, it will be her first year with the Lancer volleyball team. Cortney will help us out defensively at both the varsity and junior varsity level.
The Lancers have three sophomores that will also play a role on the varsity team. Middle hitter, Kate Lingscheit, is a very hard worker and improves her game every time she plays. She puts up a nice block and places the ball well. Setter, Christina Rowbotham, finished last year’s season with 424 set assists. Cristina will continue to help the Lancers both offensively and defensively. Amanda Dirksen will make an impact on the outside. Amanda has an aggressive attack in both the front and back row.
Two 2009 red-shirts, Sarah Bruce and Brianna Wuestewald, will help out the junior varsity team as outside hitters.
The freshman class includes three talented players: Emily Schreur, 6’2†from Alcester, S.D.; Jena Peters, 6’0†from Lake Park, Iowa; and Haley Logan, 5’10†from Gettysburg, S.D. These freshmen are talented and will make it a fun junior varsity season, but will also be able to step up and help the varsity if needed.
