SEASON PREVIEW
The Lancers are bringing to the field this year a blend of eight returning starters as well as eight newcomers and new head coach Dan Hendricks, which will hopefully make this season one to remember. Out of those eight retuning starters the Lancers will be led by a pair of seniors and co-captains in Kalina Carlson and Laura Condon. Coach Dan Hendricks is excited about the leadership Kalina and Laura can provide, “We will be looking to these two to lead us with their experience and leadership. Kalina is a returning Honorable Mention All Conference selection. The Lancers came into fall camp in better shape than ever and are working hard to make this a season in which we are able to compete in the always tough Great Plains Athletic Conference.”

On defense for the Lancers sophomore Nicki O’Dea will be at goalkeeper and will be surrounded by a group of freshmen in April Dolezal, Jennifer Bautista, Betsy Tucker and Michelle Guichard. Also seeing playing time in the back will be returning starters Jenny Lucht, Leighann Frensel and co-captain Laura Condon. Coach Hendricks thoughts on his defense, “Laura will be the most experience of the bunch and Leighann will be the vocal leader on our backline. We will have some of those freshmen working in and out of the starting line-up as well.”

In the Midfield for the Lancers will be an experienced group of players, with the most experience going to co-captain and senior Kalina Carlson. Head coach Dan Hendricks says, “Kalina is our heart and soul of this team and it will be a pleasure coaching her in her last season at Mount Marty”. Also in the midfield will be a pair of sophomores in Sara Haase and Theresa Condon. Hendricks says of the pair, “Those two can run forever and we will be depending on them to help our attack and get back to defend.” Carolyn Lovell will also be patrolling as a Midfielder for the Lancers. Coach Hendricks feels confident in her talents, “Carolyn will be the playmaker of the group as her role in the attacking midfield will allow her to do what she does best, take people on and make stuff happen.” Missy Philipps and Stephanie Shultz also look to add depth to the midfield. Freshmen Betsy Tucker and junior Jenny Lucht could also see some time in the midfield for the Lancers this season.

At forward for the Lancers will be a dangerous tandem. Leading the charge for the Lancers will be Lauren Donlin. Lauren is a returning Honorable Mention All Conference and Mount Marty record setting sophomore. Along side of Donlin will be sophomore Abby Hunhoff. Coach Hendricks is excited about what these two can create offensively this season, “With the hard work these two have put into fall camp, the Lancers are looking for big things this season out of this young but talented forward tandem. These two ladies have great ability and can single-handedly win games for us.” Carolyn Lovell could also see some time up at forward for the Lancers this season.
