2009 SEASON PREVIEW

The 2009 season for the women’s soccer team will be very different than past years for Coach Hendricks.  The Lancers return 10 letter-winners with eight returning starters for last season. This will be the first season in Coach Hendricks’ tenure that he will have a veteran team that includes four seniors. The 2008 Lancers did not have a single senior on the squad.

The eight returning starters for the Lancers have a good balance of offense and defense. Senior Co-Captain Lauren Donlin leads the attack and looks to add to her record setting career. Donlin holds school records for goals in a season, goals in a career, and points in a season, and points in a career.

The Lancers midfield returns both of last season starting center-midfielders with senior Co-Captain Sara Haase and sophomore Emily Girard. Sara is a hard nose defensive midfielder and Emily is a dangerous player in the attacking one-third of the field. Mount Marty also returns Carolyn Lovell who was a starting midfielder on the 2007 team. This group of talented girls looks to lead the midfield both offensively and defensively.

On defense, Mount Marty returns all four starters from last season. This group is lead by Co-Captain April Dolezal and Hayley Rutledge. Hayley is the vocal leader of the back four and April’s experience as a two-year starter will help lock down the defensive side of the ball.

This year’s newcomers have the ability to make an impact right away in the Mount Marty program. Hannah Miller from Norfolk, NE looks to give the Lancers more options up top at the forward position. During fall camp Miller has shown the knack for putting the ball in the back of the net. Ashlin Aguilar out of Grand Island, NE is not only an aggressive defender but has a great personality. Aguilar’s ability and hard work should help the Lancers as the season progresses.
