Mount Marty College Announces the Addition of Two New Nursing Programs

Published Date11\22\2010
Mount Marty College, a leader in BSN nursing education for 50 years, announces the addition of two new nursing programs beginning in January 2011. A Masters Degree in Nursing and a Certificate in Practical Nursing have been approved by the South Dakota Board of Nursing and the Higher Learning Commission (North Central Association).

Mount Marty Colleges tradition of service learning and outreach to underserved populations has stimulated the development of a Masters Degree in Nursing program with specialties that will reach those populations with primary care and community health nursing leadership. The Masters Degree in Nursing will offer the following specialties: Advanced Public Health Nurse Leader; Pediatric Nurse Practitioner; and Adult Geriatric Nurse Practitioner.

The Masters Degree program features a unique curriculum and hybrid online format that will allow students face-to-face contact with each other and healthcare leaders during 3-day immersion sessions at the beginning of each semester and at mid-semester across the two years of study.

The mission of the Certificate in Practical Nursing program is to produce graduates who seek employment as Licensed Practical Nurses. LPNs work in a variety of clinical settings including acute-care, long-term care, home health and office/clinic environments.

Informational meetings for these nursing programs will be held in the Roncalli Welcome Center on Mount Marty Colleges campus. The Certificate of Practical Nursing meeting will be held on December 7 at 7:00 p.m. and the Masters Degree meeting will be held on December 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Students interested in enrolling or obtaining more information on these new nursing programs can register online at www.mtmc.edu or contact the Mount Marty College Office of Admissions, 605-668-1545 or 855-MtMarty (686-2789).
