Mount Marty Students Attend Leadership Sessions

Published Date3\14\2011
Over 60 Mount Marty College students recently participated in Leadership Training sessions held on the Yankton campus and sponsored by the Benedictine Institute of Leadership, Ethics, and Social Justice.

The Leadership Training featured two nights of activities and speakers engaging students on topics like Dealing with Authority, Initiative and Motivation, Benedictine Leadership, Handling Conflict, Responsibility and Accountability, and How to be a Professional through Effective Communication.

Sister Maribeth Wentzlaff, Director of Campus Ministry and Residence Life, and the Executive Director of the Benedictine Institute, said that student participation exceeded her expectations for the first-time event.

I was so impressed with the caliber of student leaders who came to these sessions. There was a true energy in the room, and I walked away affirmed in the goodness of students on Mount Martys Campus, she commented. It is my dream that they will take the information that they heard from the fantastic speakers and use that to empower their peers to greatness in the various clubs, organizations, and groups in which they are leaders.

Among those attending were students already holding officer positions in various campus organizations and those interested in applying for campus leadership positions like Ambassadors, Student Government Association Officers, Residence Hall Advisors, and Orientation Advisors.

According to Wentzlaff, the college hopes to build on the success of this first-year program. Through the Benedictine Institute of Leadership, Ethics, and Social Justice, we hope to continue to offer future programs to help our students hone their leadership skills.
