PADDLEFISH Awards and Student Reading Presented at MMC Noon Forum

Mount Marty College held a student reading and PADDLEFISH awards presentation at the Colleges Noon Forum Thursday, May 5, 2011 in the South Dining Room of the Roncalli Center. Students read their selected works and English Professor, Dr. Jim Reese, presented the student awards. Student award winners included: James Ball, Evanston, Wyo., 2011 Sister Eileen Neville Award for Poetry; Brian Teel, Yankton, S.D., 2011 Eugene Brinkmeyer Award for Fiction; Jordan Salvas, Rapid City, S.D., 2011 Father Jack Garvey Award for Nonfiction.

Mount Marty Colleges national literary journal, PADDLEFISH, was founded in 2007 by Assistant Professor of English, Dr. Jim Reese. It includes works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry submitted from students and authors throughout the United States and world. The online version of PADDLEFISH also includes media arts submissions.

PADDLEFISH is edited by Jim Reese, associate editor, Dana DeWitt, along with selected students. Students play a major role in the publication and gain hands-on editing and publishing experience through the process. Over 1500 submissions were received for the 2011 issue.
