Suicide Prevention Specialist Offers Expertise during Mount Marty CollegesSuicide Prevention Week Activities Published Date9\13\2011 National Suicide Prevention Week will be recognized on the Mount Marty College Campus on September 12-16. As part of the awareness week, Lori Montis, Project Director/Suicide Prevention Specialist with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. will be on campus to present the program: "How To Prevent a Suicide" at noon on September 16 in the South Dining Room of the Roncalli Center. In QPR training, an individual will become a QPR suicide prevention gatekeeper. The training will focus on warning signs of a suicide and also how to help someone who may be thinking about suicide. The Question, Persuade and Refer model is a nationally recognized training method. As part of the week-long awareness, a Mass will be held in the Mount Marty College Oratory at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14 in remembrance of those who have died from suicide. Before Mass, there will be an opportunity for people to light a candle for someone they would like to remember. Prayers will be offered at Mass for family, friends, and victims of suicide. The public is invited to attend both events.
