Mount Marty College Kicks Off 75th Anniversary Year with Special Mass Bishop Marty Portrayal by former Yankton Resident, Lenny Koupal
Mount Marty College will begin its 75th Anniversary events this fall with a special Anniversary Opening Mass held on Monday, September 19 at 11:00 a.m. in Bishop Marty Memorial Chapel. In honor of the college’s namesake, Bishop Martin Marty, the Archabbot Justin DuVall of St. Meinrad Archabbey (Bishop Marty’s home abbey) will preside over Mass and serve as homilist. The public is invited to join Mount Marty College faculty, staff, and students in this celebration. Monday evening, the college welcomes back Lenny Koupal, former Mount Marty College Relations Director, for an encore performance of his first-person portrayal, “No Cross, No Crown – The Life of Bishop Martin Marty, OSB.” His performance will be held at 7:00 p.m. in Marian Auditorium. It is free and open to the public. Mount Marty College is named in memory of Martin Marty, a Benedictine missionary to the Indians who came to Dakota Territory in 1876, became the Territory's first Catholic Bishop, and who invited the Benedictine Sisters to establish a religious community in Yankton. Mount Marty will continue to celebrate with campus events throughout the year. Visit 75th anniversary section to find out more.
