Students, Faculty and Staff Donate Thanksgiving Baskets

Published Date11\30\2011
Mount Marty students, faculty, and staff worked together to provide Thanksgiving food baskets for 25 families this past holiday. Each group shopped for holiday meal items, put the baskets together, and delivered them to families the day before Thanksgiving.

Campus Ministry has organized this project for many years and Br. David McGinnis coordinated this year’s gathering of baskets. “I work with the banquet downtown and they provide names of families in need,” he said. “I put out a notice to the campus and various groups create the baskets. Typically a basket averages about $70, so multiplied by 25 is quite a bit for the families. People commented that they truly needed the gifts. The students who participated felt really gratified because they could see that these were needed. Students, staff, faculty – all areas of the campus participated.”

Before the baskets were delivered, participants were invited to share in a “Blessing Ceremony” held in the Peace Chapel the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
