Mount Marty College is pleased to announce the athletic commitment of Matt Hoines to attend MMC and participate in the college's baseball program.

Hoines played spring baseball for the Beresford Club High School team and summer baseball for the Beresford American Legion Baseball team and has had a distinguished high school career. He was named Academic All-State for the 2012 High School Club Baseball season and earned 1st Team All-Region his senior spring season hitting .271 with one double, 4 triples, and 2 home runs.

Hoines had a strong 2011 American Legion Baseball season where he batted .455 with 15 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, and 46 RBIs. For spring High School Club Baseball Hoines earned Class B 1st Team All-State and was named 1st Team All-Region during his junior year in which he hit .622 with 5 doubles, 1 triple and 3 home runs. Hoines was also named Honorable Mention All-Region during his sophomore playing season.

"I am very excited about the commitment of Matt," says MMC head baseball coach, Andy Bernatow. "Matt has the ability to be a middle of the order hitter for us and the coaching staff feels very comfortable with his abilities. He has been coming to our hitting camps the past few years and has always impressed us. He has exceptional bat speed for a high school athlete - in fact one of the highest bat speeds we have ever tested at our camps. What excites us is that bat speed can translate into power at the plate."

The son of Al and Laurie Hoines, Hoines will major in biology at Mount Marty. In addition to his success on the field, he was a member of the National Honor Society in high school and is an exemplary student. In addition to his baseball scholarship, Hoines is also the recipient of the Hatterscheidt Scholarship, and one of MMC's prestigious scholarships, the Benedictine Scholarship.

Bernatow continued, "Matt is also an outstanding student and should fit in well with the Mount Marty community and baseball program. I am excited to get him to campus!"
