MMC Watertown Spring Commencement to be Held

Mount Marty College's Watertown location will host its spring 2013 commencement exercises at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4 at Immaculate Conception, 309 Second Ave SE. Joanna (Jo) Vitek , the recently retired Watertown Chief of Police and MMC adjunct professor of criminal justice, will deliver the commencement address.

Vitek is a 36-year veteran of law enforcement that retired on April 1, 2013 as the Chief of Police for the Watertown Police Department. She is the past President of the South Dakota Police Chiefs' Association and has been certified in Georgia, Florida, and South Dakota as a police officer. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida, in Orlando, Florida. Vitek is a graduate of 109th Session of the Administrative Officer's Course of the Southern Police Institute in Louisville, Kentucky and a graduate of 8th Session of FDLE's Senior Leadership Class, in Tallahassee, Florida.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Vitek serves as an advisor and instructor of the Leading by Legacy program of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. She is active in the H2O 20 Visioning process for the community of Watertown, is a member of Watertown Rotary and the Elk's Lodge, and serves on the Saint Anne's Board of Directors for the Mother of God Monastery.
