Mount Marty College to Hold Commencement May 11
Mount Marty College will host spring 2013 commencement exercises at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 11 at Laddie E. Cimpl Arena, 1105 W. 8th St., Yankton. Baccalaureate will be held prior to commencement at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 11 in the Bishop Marty Chapel.
Retiring Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs of Mount Marty College, Robert "Bob" Tereshinski, will give this year’s commencement address.
Bob Tereshinski, a native of Lansdale, PA, began his forty-eight years in Yankton when he came to Yankton College in January of 1965. After Yankton College, Tereshinski received his Masters in Health, Physical Education and Recreation in 1970. He coached the Tabor High School Cardinals in football, basketball, and girls’ track for three years, and then moved to Crofton, NE, where he was the PE director as well as the football and basketball coach until the Yankton College Greyhounds recalled him. He served as one of the defensive coordinators of Yankton College football and was also the assistant baseball coach from 1974-1976.
In the early 1980's Tereshinski coached the Yankton Post 12 American Legion baseball team to two consecutive state appearances. He was also President of the Yankton Chamber of Commerce, President of the Yankton Sertoma Club, and an active member of the Yankton Library Board while managing KQHU radio.
He then returned to coaching on a collegiate level when he began recruiting and coaching in 1988 for a new Mount Marty College baseball program. He lead the Lancers to four NAIA regional appearances, five SDIC regular season and tournament championships, which produced twelve NAIA Academic All Americans, three NAIA All Americans, and three SDIC Coach of the Year awards, culminating to the 1995 South Dakota Sports Writers Association's Coach of the Year selection. In 1999 the Lancers baseball team was chosen as South Dakota Sports Writers Association’s College and University team of the Year. Bob completed his eleven year baseball coaching career on the College and Legion Levels with over 400 wins. Bob has the most wins in athletic history of Mount Marty College with 332 victories. In 2004 he was inducted into the Yankton College athletic Hall of Fame and in 2007, the Mount Marty College athletic Hall of Fame.
Tereshinski is currently Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs at Mount Marty College and has previously been active as Chairman of the Physical Education Department and Assistant professor in the classroom teaching various physical education and recreation courses. Bob was awarded the MMC Teacher of the Year award in 2007. He will be leaving Mount Marty College after 26 years of service.
Tereshinski and his wife, Judy, have two grown children, Ann and Matt, along with daughter-in-law, Renee, and three granddaughters, Lauren, Claire, and Madeline.
