Lancer Athletic Recognition and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies Held

Mount Marty College held its annual Lancer Athletic Recognition and Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies May 5th, 2013 on the campus of Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD.

Inductees in to the Hall of Fame were Kate Heine Pesicka, a women's basketball player from 1998 to 2002, the 1972 Lancer Volleyball Team, and the 1998 Lancer Men's Basketball Team.

Lancer Club Award Winners were also recognized. These awards are for the student-athlete who best exemplifies scholarship, citizenship, and leadership in their respective sport. A contribution of $1000 is given to each sport's scholarship fund on behalf of the student-athlete winners.

The 2012-2013 Lancer Club Award winners are:
Baseball: Mathias Godsil
Men's Basketball: Jeff Larson
Women's Basketball: Brittany Little
Golf: Weston Swanson
Men's Soccer: Jose Marquez
Women's Soccer: Hannah Miller
Softball: Gabi Cardenas
Women Track: Brooke Fischer
Men Track: Joshua Monson
Volleyball: Amanda Dirksen

Also awarded was The Lancer Champions of Character Award which is given annually to the one student athlete that best portrays the values of the NAIA core character values - responsibility, respect, servant leadership, integrity, and sportsmanship. The 2012-2013 winner was Dylan Babel.

The Yankton Quarterback Club Female Athlete of the Year was track and field athlete Abbey Vandenberg. She earned All-American stays this winter at the NAIA National Indoor Track Meet in the triple jump, and has qualified for the nationals in the outdoor event as well. She also has set records in the 60m dash and the 4x100m relay.

The Yankton Quarterback Club Male Athlete of the Year was baseball athlete Jared Miller. He was among the top 5 in the conference in at least 7 major categories, including the leader in doubles and on base percentage, which led to a 1st Team All-GPAC Selection.
