MMC Track, Cross Country Programs Sign Two

Ryan Oye of Luverne, Minn., and Gage Blashke of Sioux Falls will attend Mount Marty and compete in track and cross country for the Lancers, the institution announced on Tuesday.

Blaschke, a Sioux Falls Lincoln graduate, earned a 28th place finish at the state AA cross country competition in 2011 and has earned numerous awards and honors for his participation in the sports, including: Best Freshman, Patriot Pride (two years), four time varsity letter winner in cross country and three time varsity letter winner for track.

"Gage is a very talented young man," said MMC track and cross country coach Randy Fischer. "We are very fortunate to have him attending Mount Marty College next year."

Active in the community as well, Blaschke participated in Christ the King youth group, church choir, was a confirmation volunteer, achieve volunteer, a member of his school's concert choir, Senior Honor Choir (two years), All State Honor Choir (two years), Regional Honor Choir (two years), NAFME National Honor Ensemble, and lettered all four years.

Blaschke plans to major in biology at Mount Marty College. He has been awarded the MMC Prestigious Trustee Scholarship, a Catholic Leadership Award, and a Fine Arts Award in addition to his athletic awards for Track/Cross Country. Blaschke is the son of Dave and Mercedes Supik and Vaughn Blaschke of Sioux Falls.

With a past season 5K time of 17.28, Oye was a True Team State Participant and logged first place finishes at the Subway JCC Invite, the Luverne Invitational and the MCC Invitational cross country events. He was also a state qualifier for cross country, a section qualifier for track, and named All-Southwest Conference Honorable Mention for cross country.

"I'm really looking forward to having Ryan on the team next year," Fischer said. "He's going to be a great addition to both of our programs and the MMC community as a whole."

Oye was actively involved in school activities, including FFA, FCCLA, mock trial, speech, and theatre. He was President of FCCLA, Treasurer of FFA, chosen to attend MN Boys State, an Academic Letter, an Eagle Scout, and was recipient of the 2012 MN Mock Trial Professional Performance Award. He plans to major in Recreational Management and participate in cross country, indoor and outdoor track, and theatre at MMC.

The son of Steve and Andrea Oye, Ryan is the recipient of a one of MMC's prestigious academic scholarships, the Trustee Scholarship, and will also receive a catholic leadership award, a fine arts award for theatre, and his athletic awards for track and cross country.
