Kadoka Two-Sport Standout Headed To Mount Marty
Mount Marty College announced Tuesday that Tess Byrd of Kadoka will participate in basketball and cross country for the Lancers, beginning in the 2012-13 school year.
A 5-7 guard, Byrd averaged 10 points, three rebounds, six assists and four steals per game. She earned all Class B State Tournament team for the Kougars, who finished sixth in the state tournament. She also earned all-Southern Plains Conference and All-SPC Tournament honors.
"Tess is a great person and will be a great addition to the program," MMC women's basketball coach Tom Schlimgen said.
In cross country, she helped the Kougars to second in the S.D. State Class B Meet. She was also a relay runner in track for Kadoka.
"Tess is a great athlete and we are excited to have her as part of our cross country team for next year," MMC cross country coach Randy Fischer said.
Byrd, daughter of Harvey and Karen Byrd, plans to major in parks and recreation management at Mount Marty College. In addition to her basketball and cross country awards she has also the recipient of one of MMC's prestigious academic scholarships, the Benedictine Scholarship.
