Vornhagen to Play Baseball at Mount Marty College
The Mount Marty College baseball program is pleased to announce the commitment of Kearney High School (Neb.) senior, Philip Vornhagen.
Vornhagen is a pitcher and outfielder for the Kearney Runza American Legion Baseball Team. Kearney Runza compiled a 30-18 record last summer but Vornhagen's season was cut short by an injury. He was able to log 14 innings on the mound and saw limited time in the outfield. During his sophomore summer Vornhagen assembled a .322 batting average for Kearney Post 52 Juniors.
Mount Marty College head baseball coach, Andy Bernatow, is happy to announce the commitment of Philip to the Lancer Baseball program. "I am excited to have Philip join the program. He should be a natural fit to the campus and the team. Philip worked out for us last fall and I liked his swing and feel that he has the potential to turn into a quality college hitter. I am excited to see how he progresses this legion season and next fall when he gets to campus."
Vornhagen will major in nursing at Mount Marty College. The son of Allen and Kellee Vornhagen, Philip is the recipient of a Mount Marty College Merit Scholarship and Scholastica Scholarship for his academic achievement and will also be receiving a baseball scholarship. During his high school career, Vornhagen has been named to the Honor Roll and was named Academic All-Conference in 2012 and 2013. He has also participated in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, K-Club, and DECA.
