Holden Named Assistant MMC Mens Basketball Coach
Mount Marty College is excited to announce the hiring of Sam Holden as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach for the 2014-2015 season. Holden comes to Mount Marty College from Black Hills State University, in Spearfish, SD where he spent the past six years with the men’s basketball program.
Coach Baker is very pleased to have Holden joining his staff, "Sam brings a lot to this program. He has coached for many years and done it at a very well respected university and basketball program. He is a great recruiter and has a work ethic that is supreme."
Holden, a Pierre, SD native, received his undergraduate degree from Black Hills State University in 2010, and master's degree also from BHSU in 2012. Holden played for two seasons at Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD and prior to that was the student manager for Coach Dave Boots at the University of South Dakota.
Eager to join the staff, Holden stated, "I am very excited to get going with these players and the Mount Marty athletic program. I am pleased with the direction the program is taking and to be a part of it for years to come."
"Sam knows the region and its players very well and the type of players we have in the GPAC conference. He grew up in South Dakota and while he was at Black Hills he was able to have experience at the NAIA and Division II level. He understands what it takes to win at this level and that experience is great to have here at MMC," Coach Baker said.
Holden will also be responsible for other duties on the MMC campus. Most of these duties will help support the entire athletics staff with scheduling and game event management.
Chuck Iverson, Athletic Director, is also pleased to have Holden on the athletics staff at MMC, "We are excited to have someone of Coach Holden's talents join our staff. He will be a good fit, not only to the basketball program, but he also fits well with the mission of our campus."
