Leadership opportunities are intended to nurture connections both within the
college community and the local community, as well as inspire and sponsor works
that promote the common good of all persons. Some of the leadership programs are
the Leadership Lunches, MMC annual conference, SDCPA Leadership conference,
Annual Leadership Banquet and Community services.
Leadership Lunches are 30 to 40 minute programs that occur bi-monthly. These
programs will cover a variety of leader qualities and personal development in
mini-workshop/training form. Topics to cover in the first year will be:
integrity, self renewal, goal setting, team building,
recruiting-motivating-retaining, communication, leader styles, creative
thinking, courage, collaboration, meeting management-delegating-group
expectations, budgeting, time management, ethical decision making, ethics,
values, situational leadership, Christian leadership, and diversity. Presenters
will be from the MMC and Yankton Community.
See the Student Life Calendar for specific dates and times!
The MMC Annual Conference a one-day Saturday conference with keynote speakers,
breakout sessions, and hands-on experience.
SDCPA Leadership Conference is an annual that is hosted at various
colleges/universities throughout South Dakota. Presenters are college\university
professionals and members of the SDCPA. The conference is one-day with a theme
this year revolving around celebrating leadership. Topics for this conference
include: conflict resolution, peer to peer mentoring, event planning, Bystander
training, Career in Student Affairs, managing multiple priorities, personal
knowledge/growth, team building skills, and meeting management.
An annual leadership banquet occurs in the spring to honor students in the
leadership program. Awards will be given to all members and special awards for
outstanding leaders. The student(s) with the most outstanding community service
community service project will present his or her project at the banquet. A
motivational speaker on leadership will be the entertainment for the banquet.
Community service is a large part of the Leadership program and involves but is
not limited to current Mount Marty College service projects. The community service
projects can be at home or in the larger community, as simple as visiting
someone at Avera Sacred Heart Care Center or as large as an international
project.
The Leadership program will also be implementing a Mentor Program. First and
second year students will be mentored by the third and fourth year participants.
Students will share the knowledge that older students have gained.
