Mount Marty College to Hold Spring 2017 Commencement on May 13

May 10, 2017

Mount Marty College (MMC) will hold its Spring Commencement on Saturday, May 13 at 10 a.m. at Laddie E. Cimpl Arena, 1105 W. Eighth St. in Yankton.

Graduates will receive their undergraduate and graduate degrees at the ceremony, where they’ll celebrate through longstanding traditions and reflections on the opportunities ahead.

This year’s Yankton commencement speaker is Father Thomas Wordekemper. A native of West Point, Nebraska, Wordekemper graduated from Mount Marty College in 1979 with a BS in Music Education.

After graduating from Mount Marty, Fr. Thomas spent time teaching elementary and middle school music in St. Helena, NE, and Omaha, NE, in addition to working at the Fischer Group Home for Abused and Neglected Children in Omaha. In 1984, Fr. Thomas entered Assumption Abbey in Richardton, ND, to take on the life of a Benedictine monk, professing his Solemn Vows in 1988. After receiving his M. Div. and MA in Catholic Thought from St. Meinrad Seminary, Fr. Thomas was ordained into the priesthood in 1994.
