Mount Marty College to Gain New Soccer Facilities Through Crane-Youngworth Field Renovation and Yankton School District Partnership

September 26, 2017

Mount Marty College recently announced an official partnership with the Yankton School District on renovations and improvements to Crane-Youngworth Field. MMC will contribute $200,000 to the overall project, which includes the replacement of the current grass field with a synthetic turf field. In return, the improved Crane-Youngworth Field will serve as the new game site for MMC’s men’s and women’s soccer teams beginning in fall 2018.

“The agreement with the Yankton School District provides an opportunity to showcase MMC’s men’s and women’s soccer programs, which will assist with recruitment and retention of student-athletes,” MMC President Marcus Long says. “Mount Marty plays in the GPAC, one of the most competitive NAIA conferences in the country, so our commitment to competitive programs requires that we invest in outstanding facilities, too.”

The partnership includes a 10-year use agreement between MMC and the Yankton School District, with MMC investing $40,000 a year over five years to help pay for the artificial turf. Once renovations are complete, MMC student-athletes, who play in the competitive Great Plains Athletic Conference, will have access to top-notch facilities, which will not only benefit current players but also the future of the program.

“This is a wonderful collaboration that benefits Mount Marty immensely,” says MMC Athletic Director Chris Kassin. “Crane-Youngworth will be one of the premier soccer venues in the GPAC and will help all facets of the soccer program.”

“This partnership will also help to enhance the student-athlete experience and give us a great home field advantage,” Kassin adds.
