Mount Marty Recognized as One of the Best Colleges in South Dakota

September 15, 2017

Mount Marty College (MMC) was recently named one of the best colleges in South Dakota for 2017, in a list compiled by online publication College Choice. MMC received its high ranking based on student-to-faculty ratio, return on investment, early career salary, student satisfaction and more.

“At Mount Marty, our focus has always been on providing our students with a high-quality education while fostering their personal and spiritual development,” says MMC President Marc Long. “The College Choice ranking not only recognizes our commitment to these goals as an institution but also to the great success our students find after graduation.”

Among the highlights, College Choice notes MMC’s No. 1 nurse anesthesia program, which offers the first Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program in the state of South Dakota, as an important feature of the college. Top MMC majors nursing, business, education and criminal justice were also mentioned.

MMC’s small size and close-knit community also influenced its place in the College Choice rankings, which are based on data from IPEDS, U.S. News & World Report, Payscale and college websites. The publication mentions MMC’s 10-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio and overall class size — nearly 83 percent of classes have fewer than 20 students.

The College Choice honor adds to other recent MMC recognition for overall excellence. The college was named one of the Best Colleges for the Regional Midwest category by U.S. News & World Report, Best Bang for the Buck College by Washington Monthly, a 2017 Military-Friendly School by, as well as a 2017-2018 College of Distinction. In addition, MMC was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service honor roll for its Lakota Cultural Immersion and Service Learning program, Freshman Experience program and campus ministry service trips.
