MMC Division of Nursing Hosts Sigma Theta Tau International Induction Ceremony

The Mount Marty College (MMC) Division of Nursing hosted the Sigma Theta Tau International Upsilon Iota Chapter induction ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital Pavilion, inducting nine new members. Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) is an honor society dedicated to advancing world health and celebrating nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership and service.
Charlene Bierema RN BSN MSN, associate professor of nursing at Mount Marty, served as the keynote speaker. Bierema received her BSN from Mount Marty, and she holds clinical experience in a small, private care facility.

STTI supports nurses throughout their careers with continuing education, nursing publications and more. Membership, through invitation only, is offered to baccalaureate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and leadership and to nurse leaders showing notable achievements in nursing. The STTI global community includes more than 500 chapters in 90 countries.
MMC’s nursing programs aim to develop professional nurses who provide holistic nursing care based on nursing theory and research. Graduates are prepared to offer professional care as a generalist in a variety of settings and to diverse groups. Currently, MMC offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (with both BSN and RN/LPN to BSN programs) and a Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner at the Yankton campus. The Sioux Falls location is home to MMC’s nationally recognized Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia program.
