MMC Watertown Faculty of the Year 2017

Dr. James Simmons, Associate Professor of English at Mount

Marty College (MMC) – Watertown, was recently presented their Faculty of the Year

award. Simmons was voted by students to receive the honor.

 

“Dr. Simmons has been a driving factor in my progression as a student and an adult,”

David Jacobson, MMC-Watertown student said. “He has taken the time to aid me in

higher learning and has taken a personal interest in my career aspirations. He has a

great sense of humor and always seeks to engage his student’s best efforts. Mount

Marty has been lucky to have a professor like Dr. Simmons. I will miss seeing him

around campus.”

 

Simmons is a graduate of Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, WV, where he majored in

English and German. He took the M.A. in German and the M.A. and Ph.D. in English at

the University of North Dakota; he holds the Graduate Diploma in Theology from the

Melbourne College of Divinity, Melbourne, Australia. Simmons also studied at the Free

University of Berlin and participated in National Endowment for the Humanities Summer

Seminars for College Teachers at both Harvard and Yale Universities.

 

Dr. Simmons has been with MMC for 14 years, with 4 of them at the Watertown

campus. In May, Dr. Simmons will retire after 43 years in higher education.
