Mount Marty Gears Up For November Musical

Mount Marty College’s Department of Theatre and Hatch Furniture of Yankton will present the family-friendly musical, Once Upon A Mattress, November 10-12 on the Yankton campus. The musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s story “The Princess and the Pea” was the first big hit for actress Carol Burnett. With music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer and book by Jay Thompson, Marshall Barer and Dean Fuller, the production will be the first college show to be seen in the newly-renovated Marian Auditorium. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. each evening.

Once Upon A Mattress will feature April Knapp, Crofton, Neb., as Princess Winifred. Also appearing on stage is Nathan Porras, Crofton, Neb., as Prince Dauntless; Lisa Keogh, Yankton, S.D., as Queen Aggravain; Jim Reimler, Yankton, S.D., as King Sextimus; Micaela Rausch, Big Stone City, S.D., as Lady Larken; Kaleb Carsten, Kimball, S.D., as Prince Harry; Lezza Thompson, Des Moines, Iowa, as The Minstrel; Heidi Swanke, Sioux City, Iowa, as The Jester; and Kalib Heeren, Akron, Iowa, as The Wizard; Ladies-in-Waiting include Piper Wegener, Humphrey, Neb.; Stacey Schleich, Mitchell, S.D.; Kim Velk, Yankton, S.D.; Jessica Polk, Roseland, Neb.; Megan Leader, Crofton, Neb.; Amanda Uthe, Madison, S.D.; and Julia Schrier, Sioux Falls, S.D. Knights include Steven Hoff, Omaha, Neb.; Haley Lind, Marathon, Iowa; Kevin White, Yankton, S.D.; Kevin Cosman, Scotland, S.D.; Amy Berning, Comfrey, Minn.; Vincent Humble, Bode, Iowa; and Dylan Babel, Humphrey, Neb. Completing the cast are Morgan Hanzlik, Spearfish, S.D., Caitlin Ostrander, DeSmet, S.D., and Jessica Sahagun, Bloomfield, Neb. as the three princesses.

The production is under the direction and vocal direction of Andy Henrickson, Associate Professor of Speech and Theatre; Scenic and Lighting Design by Stephen English, Instructor of Speech and Theatre; Costume Design by Keryl Brady, Instructor of Theatre, and Stage Management by Nicholas Rokahr, Yankton, S.D. The orchestra is under the direction of Sister Patricia Ann Toscano, and includes Dean Rettedahl, Scotland, S.D. and Kari Peterson, Omaha, Neb., on trumpet; Kayce Olson, Ellendale, N.D., clarinet; Megan Wortmann, Norfolk, Neb., bass clarinet; Rebecca Schmit, McLean, Neb., oboe; Kelsey Venenga, Bassett, Neb., baritone; Emily Girard, Kearney, Neb., alto saxophone; Dixie Church, Yankton, S.D., piano; and Father Thomas Wordekemper, Yankton, S.D., on keyboard.

The Box Office opens Monday, October 31, with ticket reservations being taken Monday through Friday, Noon-5 p.m. The Box Office is located in the Roncalli Student Center, and can also be reached by calling 605-668-1234.
