Students Experience Impaired Driving Through Simulators

Published Date12\1\2011
Mount Marty College students got to experience simulated intoxication or distraction while driving – and its consequences – in two simulators that were set up in upper Roncalli in late November.

These simulators seemed to prove effective as students expressed their surprise at the various consequences of driving distracted or intoxicated. Tracy Taylor, Director of Student Counseling, said in an interview, "It's been really interesting listening to the students when they're learning the reactions. I've heard a few students say, 'Wow, I thought all we had to do was pay a fine.' When in all actuality there's a whole lot more to it than that."

South Dakota Public Broadcasting published an article and radio story about the simulators and the students and staff involved which can be viewed on their website.
