MMC Theatre Presents the U.S. Premiere of Remember, Maggy?
A new play, recently presented as part of the Summer 2011 Toronto Fringe Festival, will see its first American production by Mount Marty College Theatre from March 1-3. Remember, Maggy?, written by the mother/son duo Carol Anne Murray and Matt Murray, follows the complex relationship of two forty-something sisters; one a quintessential housewife and the other an alcoholic actress. Their battle to stay connected over a five-year span is complicated by the progression of their mother's Alzheimer's disease.
The play was written over twenty years ago by Carol Anne Murray as a short one act play. With input from her writer/actor/director son Matt Murray, the play was taken off the shelf and reworked into a two act play for the 2011 Toronto Fringe Festival.
The MMC production of Remember, Maggy? is under the direction of Andy Henrickson, Associate Professor of Speech and Theatre; Scenic Design by student Nicholas C. Rokahr, Yankton, SD; Lighting Design by Stephen English, Instructor of Theatre; and Costume Design by student Samantha Tobey, Norfolk, NE. The cast includes Alyssa Duncan, Sioux City, IA, as Maggy; Sally Schwedhelm, Hoskins, NE as her sister, Kate; Morgan Hanzlik, Spearfish, SD as their mother, Niamh; and Julia Schrier, Sioux Falls, SD as the neighbor, Irene.
Each performance begins at 7:30 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, in the newly-renovated Marian Auditorium on the Mount Marty College campus in Yankton, SD. Tickets may be reserved by calling the Theatre Box Office at 605-668-1234, Monday through Friday between Noon and 5 p.m. beginning February 21. The play is rated PG-13 for mature language and themes.
