Amundson to Play Basketball and Golf for MMC

Mount Marty College is pleased to announce the athletic signing of Kelly Amundson of Vermillion, SD to play basketball and golf for the Lancers next fall.

Amundson, a 5'10" center, and her team were District and Region Champions in 2012. Individually she was named to the third team All-State, All-Tournament State Class A girls' basketball, All-Conference 2012, All-Region 2011, and All-Conference Honorable Mention 2011. She earned the Oil Can award, Hard Worker Basketball Player Award, and was voted Most Improved by her team. During the 2011-12 season she averaged 14.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game with a 40% field goal percentage, a 34% three point percentage and shot a 74% free throw percentage.

Amundson has also signed to participate in the golfing program at MMC. In high school, she was a member of the State A Girls Golf third place team and tied for 19th at State A Girls Golf in 2011. In addition to her numerous athletic accomplishments, Amundson attended Girls State, was named an Athlete Hometown Hero of Character, and received an Award of Excellence for Leadership. She was also named November Student of the Month, Press & Dakotan A+ Student of the Week, Secretary of National Honor Society, and Secretary of the Student Council. Amundson has also been very active in her community volunteering for the public library, Wakonda Nursing Home, her high school, the food pantry, and at the Pine Ridge Reservation.

Head women's basketball coach and golf coach at Mount Marty, Tom Schlimgen, is excited to add Amundson to the roster. "We look forward to working with her in both basketball and golf programs in the years to come."

Amundson has been awarded a Dean's Scholarship and Catholic Leadership Award. She is the daughter of Kurt and Peggy Amundson of Vermillion, SD.
