Mount Marty College Basketball Signs Two Stand-Outs

Mount Marty College men's basketball program is pleased to announce that Alex Irvine, Brookings, SD and Brookings High School and Grant Flicek, Sioux Falls, SD and Canton High School have signed letters of intent to attend Mount Marty College and play basketball.

Alex Irvine is a 6'5" forward who averaged 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. He shot 54% from the field and 79% from the free throw line. He was a 2 year starter for Tea Area HS before transferring to Brookings for his senior year. At Tea Area he was twice voted Titan Offensive MVP and was a Big Sioux All-Conference selection both years. At Brookings he was a key player on the Brookings AA State Tournament 5th place team. Alex's high school activities included serving on the student council and memberships in SADD and FCA groups.

"We're very pleased about having Alex play for us," says head MMC men’s basketball coach Jim Thorson. "He's a strong player with offensive skills and plays with an intensity we like."

Irvine, the son of Todd and Audra Irvine of Brookings, SD, plans on majoring in exercise wellness at Mount Marty.

Grant Flicek is a 6'4" forward who averaged 7 points and 7 rebounds, shooting 40% from the field for the C-Hawks. He was a 3 year letter winner in basketball and named the team's Mr. Defense award winner. He also was a varsity baseball player his junior and senior years. Grant was on the honor roll, participated in FFA, and worked as an Avera Volunteer during high school.

"Grant is a good prospect for us with the attitude and potential to improve." said coach Thorson. "We're anxious to work with him as he gets stronger and practices at the college level."

The son of June Nusz and David Flicek, both of Sioux Falls, SD, Flicek plans to major in nursing at MMC. In addition to his basketball award he will also receive an Academic Incentive Award from Mount Marty College.
