MMC Nursing Program Announces Leadership Changes
Effective August 1, 2012 Shelly Luger has been named to the position of Division of Nursing Chair and the Director of Undergraduate Nursing programs. The current division chair, Dr. Jacqueline Kelley, will now take on the Director of Graduate Nursing programs for the Yankton campus.
Dr. Kelley is confident that Luger is the right choice for the position. "Shelly has been with our program for 8 years and she is comfortable in the expectations at Mount Marty. She will continue to push the program in a positive direction and uphold the great reputation that MMC nursing has."
Also seeing some changes is the Watertown location. Under direction of Shelly Luger, that program will mirror the Yankton campus Bridge Nursing Program for already licensed LPN's and RN's interested in pursuing their BSN using the same curricular instruction methods. The new Education Coordinator for Mount Marty College's Bridge Nursing Program in Watertown is Sarah Smith. Smith has been the associate degree in nursing program coordinator at Sisseton Wahpeton College and worked as a staff nurse at Oakes Community Hospital in Oakes North Dakota.
Smith's role as Education Coordinator will consist of conducting learning sessions utilizing appropriate teaching-learning strategies, coordinating scheduled classes, conferences, and clinical experiences, advising students among a variety of other day to day duties.
"I'm excited to start my new role at MMC", states Luger. "Mount Marty has such a great reputation for turning out quality nursing graduates and I plan to continue that tradition. With the team that we have in place, and with the addition of Sarah, it's going to just be that much easier to do so."
The previous position held by Shelly Luger, the Community Health Nursing course chair, is now vacant and faculty members within the program are currently being considered.
