Published Date10\26\2012
The South Dakota Division of Parks and Recreation recently recognized several individuals for their dedication and hard work in the state parks system. Mount Marty College senior, Brian Odens, was honored at the South Dakota Parks and Recreation Association (SDPRA) Conference with the Seasonal Employee of the Year award. Odens, a senior recreation management major at MMC, is originally from Yankton, SD and spent the last two summers working at Lewis and Clark Recreation Area near Yankton.

"Brian's positive attitude and can-do spirit have influenced other seasonal employees," said District Park Supervisor Shane Bertsch in a press release from the state. "It has been a pleasure to work with him the last two summers."

To receive the recognition as Seasonal Employee of the Year, employees must first receive a nomination from their supervisor. Once nominations are received then the review process begins. Odens was considered against all the seasonal employees in the state and then the nominations received by the GFP for the award.

"A stellar example of our program here at MMC is how I would describe Brian," commented instructor of recreation management at MMC, Erin Riibe. "He is such a great student, person, and worker. I see his commitment in the classroom every day and it’s no surprise to me that he acts any other way in the working world."

Odens plans to graduate in the spring from Mount Marty College and is hoping to continue his career with the South Dakota Game Parks and Recreation department.
