DeWitt Named Associate Dean at Mount Marty Watertown
Mount Marty College is pleased to announce that effective July 2013, Dr. Krisma DeWitt will assume duties as the full-time Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in Watertown, South Dakota.
Dr. DeWitt currently serves as a part-time Associate Dean of Academic Affairs of the Watertown and Sioux Falls locations while she also serves as the division chair to the department of natural sciences and is an associate professor of chemistry for the Yankton campus. In her new role as the full-time Associate Dean of Academic Affairs she will begin the transition of leadership from Dr. Linda Schurmann, the current director of the Watertown location who anticipates retiring within the next year. In addition to familiarizing herself with the day to day operations of the Watertown location, Dr. DeWitt will also take part in faculty development, faculty evaluations and assessment, academic continuity between all Mount Marty College locations, academic strategic planning, community development, and will remain as the primary Academic Affairs liaison for the Watertown and Sioux Falls locations.
"Being from Castlewood, SD I was excited to get back to the Watertown area and try and make an impact there. Now that I'll be permanently there, I can't wait to really get engrained into the community." comments Dr. DeWitt. "I think the MMC Watertown location has such potential and it is going to be a great opportunity for me to put focus there."
Originally from Castlewood, SD, Dr. DeWitt is in her thirteenth year at Mount Marty College. She holds a BS in Chemistry from South Dakota State University, an MS in Chemistry from Kansas State University and an Ed.E. from the University of South Dakota. She served twenty two years as active duty Army Chemical Officer and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. She was an instructor in the chemistry department at the United States Military Academy (West Point) and also a professor of Military Science at USD. During her time at MMC she has taught chemistry and physics classes, has acted as a freshman advisor, taught First Year Seminar, and acted as the division chair of natural science.
Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean, Bob Tereshinski feels strongly that Dr. DeWitt was the right choice for the position. "Kris has been with Mount Marty for thirteen years and is comfortable in the expectations here. She's been working in Watertown and with the staff there for the past months and it will be an easy transition for her. She knows the community and culture there and I'm sure she'll continue to drive the institution in the same manner that Linda has."
Dr. DeWitt will relocate to Watertown, SD with her husband, Lloyd. As Associate Dean, Dr. DeWitt will report directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean, Bob Tereshinski.
