Schmidt Commits to Play Baseball for Mount Marty

Mount Marty College is pleased to announce the commitment of Jared Schmidt to attend Mount Marty College this fall and participate in the baseball program.

Schmidt will graduate from Mitchell High School this spring. The left-handed hitting shortstop has had an impressive high school career putting up some lofty numbers this past summer for the Mitchell Post 18 American Legion Baseball team. He batted .478 with 85 hits, scored 51 runs, hit 13 doubles and 5 triples in addition to stealing 19 bases in 23 attempts.

For his efforts during his high school baseball career Schmidt received several individual honors for High School Club Baseball. In 2011, as a sophomore, he was named 1st Team All-Region and 1st Team All-State. Last spring, as a junior he was name 1st Team All-Region and 2nd Team All-State.

Mount Marty College head baseball coach, Andy Bernatow, is excited to announce the commitment of Schmidt to the Lancer Baseball program. "This is a huge commitment for Mount Marty baseball. Jared is one of the premier players in the state. He can really hit and projects as a middle of the line-up hitter. Jared should be a great fit both academically and athletically for Mount Marty."

His older brother, Jason Schmidt, played baseball for the Mount Marty program from 2008 to 2012. He holds a number of college records for the MMC program and was named the 2011 GPAC Conference Athlete of the Year.

"This family is no stranger to the Mount Marty baseball program," continued Bernatow. "I am excited to have another Schmidt in the program."

Jared the son of Joel and Lori Schmidt will major in nursing at Mount Marty. He has had several academic achievements during his high school career including Boy's State, National Honor Society, and South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association All-Academic Team. Schmidt will receive academic honors scholarship in addition to his baseball award.
