Mount Marty College Recognizes Family of the Year
Mount Marty College recognized the Scheich family of Ethan, South Dakota as the 2013-14 family of the year at the College's family weekend held in November.
The Family of the Year decision takes into consideration a set of criteria. Generosity in home community or the MMC community, commitment to Christian Values, ability to touch the lives of many people, and the involvement of the family with Mount Marty College and it's loyalty to the instruction and their church and civic involvement.
Len and Patti Scheich have a daughter, Johanna, who is currently a senior English major at Mount Marty College.
The Scheich's exemplify all that the College and committee were looking for in the Family of the Year. Mrs. Scheich is a phlebotomist in Mitchell, SD at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital and Mr. Scheich is an anesthetist at the same facility. Both are extremely involved in all aspects of their church and have shown and strong commitment to their faith and family. Examples of this include their volunteer time at their church and family mission trips. Most of all, the ones that have benefitted from their dedication, have been their children. Together they made a great team and have set a high standard for their children.
Obadiah Scheich is a pharmacist at Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls, Emily Scheich Wischnowski is currently a lawyer in Omaha, and Johanna who is a highly involved student at MMC. Johanna is currently the Student Government President, a student-athlete, a member of the MMC Choir and Smooth Benediction, active in the theatre department, a writer for The Moderator, and a member of numerous campus committees.
Mount Marty College Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs, Sarah Carda, is pleased with this year's family of the year choice. "The Scheich’s couldn't be a more deserving family of this honor. They give greatly to their community and others and those traits have easily been passed down to their children. Some students hear the call of service and Johanna has been one that answers - and not many do that. Being involved and serving others seems to be a way of life for her. It really is a blessing for Mount Marty to have families, such as the Scheich’s, as a part of our community."
The Family of the Year was honored with a plaque at a special brunch during family weekend which was held November 8-9th.
